Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the Human Resources (HR) Generalist position is to develop a qualified workforce, maintain ethical and collaborative employee and labor relations, implement fair HR practices, policies, and procedures, and ensure a productive and diverse work environment. Specifically, this role:
* Hires, develops, supports, and retains a skilled, motivated, and qualified workforce.
* Ensures a productive and diverse work environment.
* Develops, monitors, and maintains ethical and collaborative employee relations.
* Develops, implements, and monitors fair HR practices, policies, and procedures in support of the organization's mission.
The HR Generalist will lead and support several of the following specialty areas:
* Employee Relations
* Health & Welfare Benefits/Pension Administration
* Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
* Leaves of Absence (LOAs)
* Recruitment
* Safety
* Worker's Compensation & Ergonomics

Requirements
Overall Requirements
* Knowledge of content creation, archiving, and retrieval processes.
* Understanding of electronic data, the Web, social media, and public relations.
* Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
* Strong communication and writing skills.
* Ability to collaborate well with others and maintain a client-oriented approach.
* Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing demands.

Job Requirements
Required: Proficient in HRIS, performance management, ATS, and other HR-related software programs
*Strong working knowledge of State and Federal employment laws (e.g., FMLA, CFRA, ADA, ADAAA, FLSA)
*Ability to interpret and apply HR laws in developing and implementing programs and policies

Preferred:
* Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements and Progressive Discipline
* Knowledge of Health & Welfare Benefits/Pension Administration
* Knowledge of Leaves of Absence Entitlements (Federal and California)
* Knowledge of Worker's Compensation and Unemployment/Disability Insurance

* Required:
* Current driver's license (California)
* Evidence of current automobile liability insurance

Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field
Preferred: Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field

Experience Requirements

Required: 3 years of Human Resources Specialist or Generalist experience with increasing responsibility and 2 years of employee relations experience

Preferred: Experience in non-profit and unionized environments
